The Stielstra Cottage was put up for sale on Sep 20, 2018. A list has been started indicating requests on the part of individuals for specific cottage items they would like to receive, or have already received, before the cottage is sold.
If you wish to have any furniture or items of a personal nature that decorate the cottage, please indicate your preferences for specific items by emailing your requests to Philip at pstielstra@comcast.net and he will add them to the list below. You can see photos of the cottage at the realtor’s website: 4712 Fox Farm Rd, Manistee, MI
- Aug 11, 2018 – Jon & JoAnn: Bill & Ann’s anniversary bench was sent to Madison with Galen so that it would have a new home with Jon and JoAnn.
- Aug 11, 2018 – Galen: Would like the Amana Radarange and the Stihl chainsaw.
- Aug 11, 2018 – Emi: Joel Bruinooge’s watercolor painting of cottage (Philip took this with him 8/16/18 cuz Joel said he didn’t want to take it)
- Aug 15, 2018 – Clare: Hey if/when you go back to the cottage to collect personal stuff will you collect the metal fish plates & bowls for me? I want them for 2 reasons: 1 – they are so perfect for kids, and 2 – they are so perfect for the Bambi (travel trailer)! I kinda want the canoe but I’m not sure its practical . . . actually pretty certain it’s not at all practical, but maybe put my name on it with a question mark. And the flapping seagull, the one above the radarange, plus a couple of beach towels. I think that’s all.
- Sep 13, 2018 – Lou: Sailboat metal sculpture that hangs above the fireplace. (Lou bought it for Mom and Dad at a craft fair and it has always held a special place in his heart.)
- Sep 20, 2018 – Anne Bontekoe: The two chairs with white wood and blue canvas seats and backs that fold up and have a white wood side board that can be raised to hold a plate or glass on. Anne had them repainted and new blue slings put in them several years ago at a re-upholstery place in Manistee. Her husband Alan told Philip that the chairs remind her of a school desk that she had when she was in elementary school.
- Sep 20, 2018 – Alyssa: The three wooden ducks on the window ledge in the top of the A windows of the living room. She would like those for her vacation cabin in Packwood, WA.
- Sep 26, 2018 – Ray: I’m still thinking this over. At the moment, I can only think of two things, and I’m not sure of the status of either one. I remember a painting made from one of the early silhouette pictures, I think it was of Sorrel, Katie and me. I don’t know if it was already claimed, though, or if it was given to someone years ago. At one point, Opa had a walking stick with a bearded man’s face carved on it. I think Oma had one, too, though I don’t remember the carving. If one or both are still around the cottage, I would love to have them.
- Nov 3, 2018 – Galen: these toys: plastic ‘garage’, plastic house/school, Lincoln logs, tinker toys.
Nov 3, 2018 – Jon: the two antique-looking tea kettle-like objects in the corner to the left of the fireplace; the plastic Craftsman toolbox and its contents; and the Craftsman cordless drill & charger package. - Nov 7, 2018 – Jim Postma: All of the plastic molded chairs (orange, black, beige) with steel legs from the dining area and basement for use at a hunting cabin he maintains with friends.
- May 14, 2019 – Clare would like to speak up for clocks at the cottage, specifically: “Analog clocks (not digital). I recall there being one in the kitchen by the toaster, but if there are others I’d be interested in them too.”
